Garmin Nuvi 300Review
Look out Tomtom, the new range of Garmin in-car GPS satellite navigation devices are here, and they're looking good!
The Garmin Nuvi 300 is aimed at the traveller who wants a sat nav for the UK & Ireland , with full Post Code search, 3d maps, voice guidance and touch screen. The Garmin does not come with Bluetooth hands free for your phone, but at this price I wouldn't expect that.
The Nuvi 300 impresses with its clear, bright screen, thousands of POIs are just a finger touch away (no stylus here!) and it is very easy to use. Enter where you want to go as Post Code, Address, recent, favourite or POI.
As with all the new Sat Navs for 06, the Garmin Nuvi 300 comes with a host of extras. It will play your mp3s or read audio books to you, store your pictures, convert currency, be a calculator (!) and can be loaded up with travel and language guides. Phew!
I love the fast start up times of the new Garmins, only a few seconds and we've got a GPS lock. In use, the 3d maps were clear and smooth, the voice loud enough and early enough, and I especially like the way the Garmin tries to speak the name of the road it wants you to go down. Very helpful.
In the box we get the usual array of leads and mounts and guides. I didn't get chance to fully test the battery, but Garmin says you should get about 8 hours out of it.
So, the Garmin Nuvi 300 is a capable Sat Nav for our car, but what about the competition? Which you'll choose is dependant on having a go and what deal you can get. The Garmin is better than the TomTom One, but its worth having a look at the Navman 530 before you make a final decision, whatever one you choose you will be getting a great GPS device.
