HPI Nitro Rs4 RTR3 Evo Dodge Viper 1/10 Scale 4WD Touring Car Rally / Off-Road Conversion Project

Lets Take an On-Road Touring Car & Convert It To Off-Road Rallying!

Viper as it is now.I know I havn't even got my HPI Nitro Dodge Viper Touring Car out of the box yet, and I'm already thinking about converting it for off road use!

This is because after a bit of searching around the local area I've found plenty of suitable, flat off road areas that would be perfect for a rally nitro car, but there aren't that many good places to run it in its pure on-road form.

The other problem is that although there are plenty of car-parks around, many of them are quite bumpy and dusty, so the improved travel and suspension of a rally conversion will stop me from damaging the car as well.

There isn't much info on the web about converting HPI RS4s to rally, what there is tends just to recommend fitting longer shocks and springs to raise the ride height (HPI part no: A771), maybe an upper deck to improve stiffness, (HPI part no: 73056), Rally Tyres (HPI part no: 4471) and of course a Rally Body-Shell!

I'm also concerned about dirt getting into the drive-train, gears and diffs, so I'll be looking at how to protect the car from that sort of damage. The front bumber will also need changing, maybe a front diff and stronger gears.... All will be revealed when I get started, and I'll post pictures and text as I go along, in the meantime here's a selection of body-shells that I'm trying to choose from....

Comments / Questions:

hey there i have the rs4 3 evo myself and i bought the rally tires for it which work great on my local baseball feild but im looking for what else i can do to it. what setup did you end up using? thanks. Matt.

I ended up buying a MT2, so didn't bother converting my RS4.

YOU DON'T HAVE TO CHANGE YOUR SHOCKS JUST GET ONLY TWO 36 X 3 MM SHOCK SHAFTS FOR THE REAR AND AJUST THE SHOCK LOWER ATTACMENT HOLES IN FRONT, YOU ALSO NEED TO SHAVE THE FRONT CASTOR ARMS A LITTLE TO LET THEM CLEAR THE TABLES AS THEY GO LOWER
THIS GIVES YOU A LITTLE MORE HEIGHT...
BUT IF YOU REALLY WANTED TO DO LOTS OF CUTTING YOU COULD TRY TO MOUNT LARGER DIAMETER TIRES,,,
I DIDN'T GO THIS WAY YET AS JUST THE EXTRA HEIGHT JUST FROM THE SHOCKS MAKES THIS THING A REAL BLAST ON AND OFF ...ER UM WELL... ON AND DIRT ROAD JUST STAY AWAY FROM GRASS.

Cheers!
